A Heartfelt Message from a Daughter
to Her Dad

We expect a lot from the men in our lives. Whether it is our own father or a male who has willingly and graciously taken on a large role within our lives, now is the perfect time to recognize the impact he has had on your life. This is what Amanda Gonzales did. (Read her personal story of survival here.) She didn’t want any more time to pass before she shared her feelings.

Take a moment to read this heartfelt message from Amanda Gonzalez to her father.

 “Dear Dad,

You always did your best in teaching me how to take care of myself in hopes that I would always be at my healthiest and happiest. You always cared about my well-being and made sure I was safe. When I was younger I did not understand what it meant to worry about the health and well-being of someone you love so deeply.

At almost 28 years old, I now know exactly what that means. The older I get, the more I think about my relationships with those around me. We all know, a daughter’s relationship with her father is significant. Nothing can compare to the special bond between a father and daughter. We have bonded through Cuban food, science fair projects, rock and roll music, memorable summer vacations and so much more.

As I hold memories from the past close to my heart, I look to the future with anticipation. As a heart survivor I realize how precious life is and that our little world can change in an instant. I worry about your heart and pray that you tend to it. I was given a second chance at life and my biggest wish is that you are happy, healthy and present for all the important days in my life. I wish for my future children to know and love their “abuelo.”

I tell you almost every time we speak, about the importance of checking your heart and taking care of your body and mind. Being a working man of hard labor for many years must be exhausting. We both agree that stress weighs heavily on one’s mental and physical health. I know that as a man, you have some stubbornness in the health department but please know I have your best interest at heart!

Always remember my struggle and that I fought through this disease because I knew I had so much to live for, my family. In return I ask that you do the same! This is a reminder that although you may feel that you are getting old, there are still, many new things to experience ahead. I love you and look forward to a heart healthy future with you, dad.

Te quiero, tu hija,
Amanda”
