Highlights from the third NCD Alliance Forum
The third Global NCD Alliance Forum concluded earlier this week in Sharjah, UAE, attracting close to 400 delegates from 85 countries. This year, the theme was ‘Bridging the gap’ centering on how to translate global commitments into national and local action. The meeting attracted a diverse community of advocates including strong representation of youth, international journalists, and the disabled and indigenous communities.
Volunteer Profile: Serena Parisi
Serena Parisi is a nurse in the ICU at Centro Cardiologico Monzino in Milan, Italy — the first hospital in Europe exclusively devoted to cardiac care and an AHA International Training Center. While working with the ambulance service as an emergency nurse and an instructor for maxi-emergency events, Serena began instructing for the AHA in 2014.
Patient Advocacy Take Center Stage at the Latin American Workshop on Noncommunicable Diseases
As part of the American Heart Association’s mission, patient advocates play an instrumental role in highlighting their lived experience with key policymakers and other stakeholders. Despite the countries of the Americas having been at the forefront of efforts to tackle noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), there is still only a limited patient movement in countries across the region and a failure of governments to include NGOs in policy creation.

World Heart Day 2020
World Heart Day 2020 focused on the theme “Use Heart to Beat CVD”. Pakistan Cardiac Society’s Go Red for Women campaign celebrated this theme with a community walk and professional education events to raise awareness of women’s heart health and risk factor management.
