Dr. Francoise Marvel
For years, Dr. Francoise Marvel has been concerned about the lack of access to health care and information in under-resourced African American, Haitian and Latino communities.
She’s also seen firsthand the overwhelming amount of generic printouts given to patients — mostly in complex medical language and passed out as an afterthought — when her father was diagnosed with heart disease.
Marvel resolved to find a “cure.”
That’s why she developed Corrie Health, an app that puts heart health in the hands of patients by tracking physical activity, doctor’s appointments and vital signs.
For her efforts, she’s a 2018 Grantee EmPOWERED To Serve Business Accelerator™. The accelerator (formerly the Urban Health Accelerator) is an eight-week, MBA-style training and grant that challenges participants to apply innovative solutions to health disparities in under-resourced communities.
