Environment and Infrastructure

The built environment influences the public’s health.

Why does environment and infrastructure matter ?

There is evidence to indicate that the burden of chronic disease in the population can be reduced through an active lifestyle, proper nutrition, and reduced exposure to toxic conditions.

However, many urban, suburban, and rural environments are not well designed to facilitate healthy behaviors or create conditions for health. Health officials can provide information about healthy living, but if people live in poorly designed physical environments, their health will suffer.
