Vice Chancellor for Legislative and Community Affairs, City Colleges of Chicago
Mason’s career in public service began in 1998 with then State Senator Barack Obama as his District Director. Under U.S. Senator Obama she was Acting State Director, and when he became President, she was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff for the Office of Personnel Management. Mason played a key role in the President’s Veterans Hiring Initiative and led the effort to improve the federal hiring process and job portal.
She worked with the White House, federal agencies and others to create government-wide guidance to address domestic violence and sexual assault in the federal workplace. She served on the White House Council for Women and Girls and the White House Equal Pay Task Force.
After returning to Chicago in 2015 Mason was appointed Midwest Regional Representative for the Department of Labor. For two years she worked to develop coalitions and mobilize stakeholders at the local level. She also coordinated regional outreach with community leaders, mayors, congressional members and governors to ensure that working Americans understood their legal rights and were able to access the resources and benefits available.
In her current role with the City Colleges of Chicago she works to maintain positive relationships with government offices and collaborate with community groups to improve students’ educational experience.
Mason sits on the Board of Directors for Women Employed, Junior League of Chicago and Girls 4 Science. She serves on the Civic Advisory Council of the City of Chicago and is an active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.
